Cartoon My Pet: The Best Apps to Turn Your Dog or Cat Into a Cartoon, Avatar or Sticker
If you want to cartoon your pet, the quickest route to a result you will actually use is Lohji, the free app from Shiloh’s House that turns one photo of your dog or cat into a 3D, Pixar-style avatar and then makes stickers, watch faces, wallpapers, mini movies and holographic trading cards from it (iPhone and Android, optional in-app purchases). PetBooth is the pick for a big batch of AI portraits in painted and photo styles ($9.99 for 100 images). ChatGPT works for a one-off cartoon if you are willing to write prompts. Snapchat’s Cartoon Face lens is free and instant but a video filter, not a reusable character. An Etsy artist gives you a human-drawn portrait for roughly $10 to $150 and a wait.

“Cartoon my pet” means different things to different people: a sticker for the group chat, a profile picture, a trading card for the fridge, or a framed portrait. Below is each route, what it actually produces, and where it falls short. Lohji is ours, so read that section with that in mind; the rest we have no stake in. Earlier we also tested which AI pet art actually works, and the verdicts there still hold.

Lohji Best for 3D avatars and stickers
Lohji starts from a single photo. Upload any picture of your dog or cat, yours or anyone’s, and it builds a 3D, Pixar-style character of that specific pet (think Dug from Up or Max from The Secret Life of Pets, as the Shiloh’s House site puts it) that you can then put to work. From that one avatar the app makes custom stickers for your texts, watch faces, 4K wallpapers for phone, tablet and Apple Watch, cinematic mini movies starring your pet, and holographic trading cards, with 100+ themed Lohji Worlds (Rainbow Ice Kingdom, Alien Planet, Wizard School, Pirate Cove and more) as backdrops. The App Store listing adds dress-up and outfit design. Because the character is reusable, a holiday version, a matching set for every pet in the house, or a new sticker pack is a few taps rather than a new order; see 10 fun things to make in Lohji and cartoon any dog or cat.
It is free to download on the App Store and Google Play, available in 16 languages, and no subscription is required to start. The App Store listing shows optional in-app purchases: Lohji Coin packs from $2.99, plus Starter, Deluxe and Premium tiers at $1.99, $4.99 and $9.99. The honest limits: the look is one house style (3D animated-film), so if you want a watercolor or a pencil sketch this is not the tool, and like every AI generator it works best from a clear, well-lit photo with the face visible.

PetBooth Best for a batch of AI portraits

PetBooth is a website rather than an app. You upload 10 to 20 photos of your cat or dog from different angles (at least half with the face clear), pick 10 of its 80+ themes, and after roughly 30 minutes to an hour you get 100 images at 2048 by 2048 pixels: for each theme, 5 artistic portraits and 5 photo-realistic pictures. The Pet Booth Pro pack is $9.99. PetBooth says it deletes your original photos, the generated images and the trained model after processing, so download what you want to keep. The trade-off is the opposite of Lohji’s: you get variety across painted and photo styles, but a pile of still images rather than a character you can animate or turn into stickers, and you need a lot more source photos.

ChatGPT image generation Best for one-off prompts
ChatGPT can transform an uploaded photo or use it as inspiration, and refine the result through conversation; OpenAI’s launch post for its image model says the feature rolled out to Free, Plus, Pro and Team users. In practice you upload your pet’s photo, describe the style (“a Saturday-morning cartoon version of this dog, flat colors, thick outlines”) and iterate until it looks right. It is the most flexible option here because you can ask for any style, and the least repeatable: each image is a fresh generation, likeness varies from try to try, and OpenAI lists editing precision as a known limitation. The launch post does not spell out free-tier limits, so check what your plan allows.

Snapchat Cartoon Face lens Best for a quick video
Snapchat’s Cartoon Face lens puts animated eyes and a cartoon face over a live subject, and it does work on dogs; Tech Advisor’s walkthrough notes it can take patience, suggests the front-facing camera and moving the phone slowly until the eyes appear, and reports they could not get it to work on a cat. It is free and instant, and it is a filter: you get a clip or a screenshot, not a character you can reuse, and the pet has to cooperate in real time.

Etsy custom portraits Best for a human artist
Search “cartoon pet portrait” on Etsy and you get page after page of artists who draw or paint your pet from a photo: digital cartoon portraits, pop-art canvases, mini watercolors, line art, multi-pet paintings, and prints that arrive framed. On the listings we looked at, sale prices ran from under $5 for a deliberately scribbly “bad pet portrait” to about $10 to $21 for most digital and mini watercolor work, up to $142 for a multi-pet watercolor. You wait days to weeks, you get one piece, and revisions depend on the seller; what you also get is a human eye on your pet’s expression, which is why these make the best gifts. We covered the same marketplace trade-offs in where to buy custom dog tags.

Which one should you pick?
Match the tool to what you will do with the result. A character you will reuse (stickers, watch face, cards, a seasonal remake): Lohji. A set of portraits in many painted styles: PetBooth. One very specific image: ChatGPT. A joke clip: Snapchat. A gift or wall art with a person’s hand in it: Etsy. Many pet parents end up with two, usually Lohji for the daily stuff and an Etsy piece for the wall.

Frequently asked questions
Is there an app that turns your pet into a cartoon?
Yes. Lohji (iPhone and Android, free to download) turns one photo of your dog or cat into a 3D, Pixar-style avatar, then makes stickers, watch faces, wallpapers, mini movies and trading cards from it. PetBooth makes batches of AI portraits on the web, and ChatGPT can cartoon a single uploaded photo from a prompt.
How do I make a sticker of my dog?
In Lohji, add a photo of your dog, generate the 3D character, then create a custom sticker pack for your texts and chats. The same character can become a watch face, a wallpaper or a trading card without starting over.
Is Lohji free?
Lohji is free to download on the App Store and Google Play, and Shiloh’s House says no subscription is required to start. The App Store listing shows optional in-app purchases: Lohji Coin packs from $2.99 and Starter, Deluxe and Premium tiers at $1.99, $4.99 and $9.99.
Can I cartoon a cat, or only dogs?
Lohji and PetBooth both take cats and dogs. Snapchat’s Cartoon Face lens is the one to be wary of with cats: Tech Advisor could not get it to work on one in testing. Etsy artists draw anything with a face.
What is the best free app to cartoon my pet?
Lohji is free to download with optional in-app purchases, and Snapchat’s Cartoon Face lens is free for a live filter. ChatGPT’s free tier includes image generation, with limits that depend on your plan. PetBooth and Etsy portraits are paid.
How do I turn my pet into a Pixar character?
Lohji is built for exactly that look: upload a clear photo of your pet and it generates a 3D animated-film-style character you can place in 100+ themed worlds, dress up, and export as stickers, cards, watch faces or a mini movie.
